Cody D. Libman is an associate at Burnes Libman Law Group. Cody focuses his practice on a wide range of personal injury matters, where he zealously advocates for his clients at trial, arbitration, mediation, and throughout settlement negotiations. He takes pride in passionately representing his clients’ interests and going the extra mile to maximize their recoveries. Cody has successfully obtained both seven-figure and six-figure recoveries through his unwavering advocacy and passion for ensuring that his clients are wholly compensated for their injuries.

 

Prior to joining Burnes Libman, Cody spent five years at a large, multi-national law firm, where he focused his practice on complex commercial litigation. He represented a wide array of corporate and individual clients in a range of matters, including trademark and patent enforcement, corporate liability, director & officer defense, restrictive covenant and trade secret violations, contractual disputes, construction litigation, and financial institution litigation. Cody has significant experience in both state and federal court, and was a key member of a trial team which obtained an eight-figure jury verdict for a client.

 

Cody also has significant pro bono experience, both at the state and federal levels. He has served as second chair in a first-degree murder case, and has advocated for clients in cases for guardianship of a minor and before the Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission for claims of torture by the Chicago Police against incarcerated individuals.  For his service, Cody earned an award in 2019 for Outstanding Dedication to Pro Bono Services.

 

While in law school, Cody served as a legal extern for the Honorable Terrance J. Lavin, Illinois Appellate Court, First District, Third Division, as well as the Illinois Innocence Project. He was also an Associate Editor of the University of Illinois Law Review and graduated with cum laude honors. Prior to attending law school, Cody was a member of Northwestern University’s varsity baseball team, where he served on the Northwestern Athletics Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and received Academic All-Big 10 and Big 10 Distinguished Scholar Honors.
